DESCRIPTION:
Construction of a cinema with seven auditoria at first floor level and five restaurant units at ground floor level. The structural form is a braced steel frame with composite concrete floors on piled foundations.
INVOLVEMENT:
The design includes enabling earthworks, superstructure design and externals including underground drainage.
CHALLENGES:
The cinema users specification was poor resulting in late changes that had to be dealt with without impact on the construction programme. Main issues related to the vibration performance of the floor and providing acoustic separation between the auditoriums. In addition, all requirements from the five restaurant tennants had to be included in the design.
BENEFITS TO CLIENT:
The project is a very good example of value for money, given that the construction cost was 70% of the cost plan value.
