The Hub
Pacific Quay, Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:
This modern four storey office/studio building is situated in Pacific Quay’s Digital Media Quarter next door to the Medius Office Development and adjacent the Princes Dock Canting basin on the River Clyde.
INVOLVEMENT:
Struer were involved in the successful design and installation of various piled foundation solutions which were pre planned using three varying techniques to help combat the challenging ground conditions.
The sub-structure and ground floor were raised to suit extreme high tide levels while also accommodating the required retention and providing the required ground gas protection measures. The steelwork frame was constructed directly from foundation level to suit programming requirements.
The structural form comprises a vertically braced steel frame with composite concrete floor slabs supporting the office levels and plant rooftop. The clean, crisp elevations were achieved through a mix of curtain walling and Alucobond cladding panels.
CHALLENGES:
The main site challenges related to the position of a number of buried constraints; tie rods, thrust blocks and quay walls. These issues were overcome with detailed pre planning and extensive exploration pits and surveying.
BENEFITS TO CLIENT:
An economically engineered, open, flexible building structure which provides a high specification work space.
