DESCRIPTION:
New two storey maternity unit. The contract was a PFI project.
INVOLVEMENT:
Civil and structural design including all external areas and underground drainage. The structural form was a steel frame on reinforced concrete pad foundations. The natural ground was improved using vibro techniques. The floors were insitu concrete composite floors.
CHALLENGES:
3D modelling of the building frame, floors and walls was required to ensure compliant floor responses factor.
BENEFITS TO CLIENT:
Once completed the new facility provided a much needed modern maternity facility, reducing pressure on the existing hospitals in the area.
