INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT BUILDING (IEB)
Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:
As part of the international technology and renewable energy zone in Glasgow, the Industry Engagement Building (IEB) provides Grade A multi-occupancy office space for the industry and accommodation for SME’s working with the University of Strathclyde on key areas of research.
The five storey building has the potential to accommodate commercial/retail space on the ground floor. Parking is provided in the basement for 20 cars.
INVOLVEMENT:
Civil and structural design including underground drainage. The structural form comprised a simple steel frame with vertical bracing located around the core. The floors were constructed using insitu concrete composite floors on down-stand beams all supported on reinforced concrete pile caps on large diameter rotary piles.
CHALLENGES:
As with similar projects of this nature getting out of the ground with the foundations is the main challenge and this was achieved timeously.
BENEFITS TO CLIENT:
The design of the floor plate allowed flexible column free office space which could then be split into multi-occupancy. A straight forward design that allowed the project to be constructed on budget and to programme.
